मूर्खलक्षणनाम — समास 3: कुविद्यालक्षण

ऐका कुविद्येचीं लक्षणें । अति हीने कुलक्षणें । त्यागार्थ बोलिलीं ते श्रवणें । त्याग घडे ॥ १ ॥

आतां कुविद्येची लक्षणें ऐका. ती अति हीन आहेत. मनुष्याने त्यांचा त्याग करावा. ती ऐकली म्हणजे त्यांचा त्याग घडतो.

Listen (to this `speech'/knowledge)! Otherwise your attention will be given to wrong knowledge and this brings the most base and inferior forms (body and gross objects). The fruit of renunciation is this `speech' and by listening carefully to this `speech' the gross will be renounced.

ऐका कुविद्येचा प्राणी । जन्मा येऊन केली हानी । सांगिजेल येहीं लक्षणीं । वोळखावा ॥ २ ॥

कुविद्येचा माणुस कसा असतो ते सांगतो. जन्माला येऊन तो स्वतःचे नुकसान करुन घेतो. येथे सांगितलेल्या लक्षणांवरुन तो ओळखू येईल.

Listen (to this knowledge and forget every other thing), for wrong knowledge brings birth and destruction in the prana. When that attention-less swarup within this listening is recognized then, there will be that thoughtless understanding.

कुविद्येचा प्राणी असे । तो कठिण निरुपणें त्रासे । अवगुणाची समृद्धि असे । म्हणौनियां ॥ ३ ॥

कुविद्येचा माणुस अति अवगुणी असतो. ते जावेत म्हणून कोणी त्यास कांहीं सांगू लागला तर त्यामुळे कुविद्येचा माणुस त्रासतो.

But when that atma takes birth in the prana and acquires wrong knowledge ("I am a body and I breath"; renunciation is, `I am not the body; the body breathes but I am not the breath'), then it is troubled by the `many' harsh and gross discourses and there is an overflowing of these inferior gunas (the mix of sattwa, rajas and tamas; ie. knowledge/ignorance and imagination).

काम क्रोध मद मत्सर । लोभ दंभ तिरस्कार । गर्व ताठा अहंकार । द्वेष विषाद विकल्पी ॥ ४ ॥

कामी, क्रोधी, मदाने, मत्सराने भरलेला, लोभी, दंभी, तिरस्कार करणारा, गर्विष्ठ, ताठा, अहंकारी, द्वेषी, विषादी, विकल्पी, आशा, ममता, तृष्णा, कल्पनांत रमणारा, चिंताग्रस्त, अहंता, कामना, भावना, असूया, अविद्या, ईषणा, वासना, अतृप्ती, लोलंगता, इच्छा, वासना, चिकित्सा, निंदा, अनीति, गुंडगिरी, सदा मस्तवाल, अवज्ञा, विपत्ति, आपदा, दुर्वृत्ती, दुर्वासना, स्पर्धा, खटपट, तर्‍हेवाईकपणा, अस्वस्थता, घाईंत काम उकणारा, अस्वस्थ, वटवट्या, तक्रारखोर, या लक्षणांनी कुविद्या प्रगट होते.

These bring desire/kam, anger/krodh, pride, envy, greed, hypocrisy, malice, arrogance, obstinacy, ego, anxiety, depression and doubtfulness.

आशा ममता तृष्णा कल्पना । चिंता अहंता कामना भावना । असूया अविद्या ईषणा वासना । अतृप्ती लोलंगता ॥ ५ ॥

कामी, क्रोधी, मदाने, मत्सराने भरलेला, लोभी, दंभी, तिरस्कार करणारा, गर्विष्ठ, ताठा, अहंकारी, द्वेषी, विषादी, विकल्पी, आशा, ममता, तृष्णा, कल्पनांत रमणारा, चिंताग्रस्त, अहंता, कामना, भावना, असूया, अविद्या, ईषणा, वासना, अतृप्ती, लोलंगता, इच्छा, वासना, चिकित्सा, निंदा, अनीति, गुंडगिरी, सदा मस्तवाल, अवज्ञा, विपत्ति, आपदा, दुर्वृत्ती, दुर्वासना, स्पर्धा, खटपट, तर्‍हेवाईकपणा, अस्वस्थता, घाईंत काम उकणारा, अस्वस्थ, वटवट्या, तक्रारखोर, या लक्षणांनी कुविद्या प्रगट होते.

These bring hope, possessiveness, hankering, imagination, worry, the sense of ego, *va- sana, emotion, envy, ignorance, aspiration, desire for physical pleasure, discontent, im- patience. *(Deep rooted desire to be body; one imagines I cannot live and experience without a body)

इछ्या वांछ्या चिकिछ्या निंदा । आनित्य ग्रामणी मस्ती सदा । जाणीव अवज्ञा विपत्ती आपदा । दुर्वृत्ती दुर्वासना ॥ ६ ॥

कामी, क्रोधी, मदाने, मत्सराने भरलेला, लोभी, दंभी, तिरस्कार करणारा, गर्विष्ठ, ताठा, अहंकारी, द्वेषी, विषादी, विकल्पी, आशा, ममता, तृष्णा, कल्पनांत रमणारा, चिंताग्रस्त, अहंता, कामना, भावना, असूया, अविद्या, ईषणा, वासना, अतृप्ती, लोलंगता, इच्छा, वासना, चिकित्सा, निंदा, अनीति, गुंडगिरी, सदा मस्तवाल, अवज्ञा, विपत्ति, आपदा, दुर्वृत्ती, दुर्वासना, स्पर्धा, खटपट, तर्‍हेवाईकपणा, अस्वस्थता, घाईंत काम उकणारा, अस्वस्थ, वटवट्या, तक्रारखोर, या लक्षणांनी कुविद्या प्रगट होते.

Then there are cravings, wishes, criticism, slander, bad conduct, violence, pride of knowledge, disobedience, difficulties, calamities, and the vritti that is far from the atma, and the vasana that is far from the atma. (The pure vritti wants just to know; the pure vasana wants just to be )

स्पर्धा खटपट आणी चटपट । तर्‍हे झटपट आणी वटवट । सदा खटखट आणी लटपट । परम वेथा कुविद्या ॥ ७ ॥

कामी, क्रोधी, मदाने, मत्सराने भरलेला, लोभी, दंभी, तिरस्कार करणारा, गर्विष्ठ, ताठा, अहंकारी, द्वेषी, विषादी, विकल्पी, आशा, ममता, तृष्णा, कल्पनांत रमणारा, चिंताग्रस्त, अहंता, कामना, भावना, असूया, अविद्या, ईषणा, वासना, अतृप्ती, लोलंगता, इच्छा, वासना, चिकित्सा, निंदा, अनीति, गुंडगिरी, सदा मस्तवाल, अवज्ञा, विपत्ति, आपदा, दुर्वृत्ती, दुर्वासना, स्पर्धा, खटपट, तर्‍हेवाईकपणा, अस्वस्थता, घाईंत काम उकणारा, अस्वस्थ, वटवट्या, तक्रारखोर, या लक्षणांनी कुविद्या प्रगट होते.

Then there is envious quarrelling and fretting and grieving; all kinds of toil and moil and chatter; continuous harassment and restless activity. This inferior knowledge is acutely painful.

कुरुप आणि कुलक्षण । अशक्त आणी दुर्जन । दरिद्री आणि कृपण । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ ८ ॥

कुविद्येचा मनुष्य कुरुप, हीन लक्षणी, अशक्त, दुर्जन, दरिद्री आणि अतिशय कंजुष असतो.

Then there is this defective form (a body and not formless) and this defective attention (mixed knowing/ignorance and not pure knowing); then one is weak (ashakti ie. not having the shakti, `I am'), wicked, penniless and miserly to the worst degree. (All qualities of the gross body and its ego and not the formless, egoless Self)

आळसी आणि खादाड । दुर्बळ आणी लाताड । तुटक आणी लाबाड । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ ९ ॥

तो अत्यंत आळशी, खादाड, दुर्बळ, लाथा मारणारा, अति लबाड व दुसर्‍यास तोडून बोणारा असतो.

Then one is lazy and gluttonous; weak and yet violent; scornful and cunning to the worst degree.

मूर्ख आणी तपीळ । वेडें आणी वाचाळ । लटिकें आणी तोंडाळ । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ १० ॥

तो मूर्ख, तापट, वेडपट, वाचाळ, खोटारडा व फार तोंडाळ असतो.

Then one is foolish and hot tempered, mad after the sense objects and talkative; then one speaks falsely and is quarrelsome to the worst degree.

नेणे आणी नायके । न ये आणी न सीके । न करी आणी न देखे । अभ्यासदृष्टी ॥ ११ ॥

कुविद्या ज्याच्या आंगी त्याला स्वतःला काही कळत नसूनही दुसर्‍याने सांगितलेलेही तो ऐकत नाही. काही येत नाही व दुसर्‍याकडून काही शिकतही नाही. स्वतः करत नाही व अभ्यासूपणे बघतही नाही.

When there is ignorance and ownership of it ("I am so and so and I do everything") then, that thoughtless understanding is not and it cannot be learned. Then even this vision of knowledge, acquired through study, cannot be made.

अज्ञान आणी अविश्र्वासी । छळवादी आणी दोषी । अभक्त आणी भक्तांसी । देखों सकेना ॥ १२ ॥

तो अज्ञानी व अविश्र्वासु असतो. छळवादी व ज्यांतत्यांत दोष काढणारा असतो. स्वतः भक्ती न करणारा व भक्ती करणाराचा द्वेष करणारा असतो.

Then there is the ignorance and faithlessness; then there is harassment and sin; such a non-devotee cannot possibly understand a devotee.

पापी आणी निंदक । कष्टी आणी घातक । दुःखी आणी हिंसक । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ १३ ॥

तो पापी असून सतत कोणाची तरी निंदा करत असतो. क्लेश भोगत असून दुसर्‍यांचा घात करणारा, दुःखी व अति निर्दयी असतो.

Due to this wrong knowledge one is a condemning, abusive *sinner; always worrying and dangerous; unhappy and violent to the worst degree. *(maharaj- there is only one sin and that is taking yourself to be a body)

हीन आणी कृत्रिमी । रोगी आणी कुकर्मी । आचंगुल आणी अधर्मी । वासना रमे ॥ १४ ॥

तो हीन व ढोंगी, रोगी व वाईट कामे करणारा, कृपण व अधार्मिक वासनेचा असतो.

Then there is the base, fake and artificial; then there are the diseased (ie. body consci- ousness) who make base and lowly actions; then one is narrow-minded and opposed to one's dharma and this vasana, to simply be, delights in wanton frivolous play.

हीन देह आणी ताठा । अप्रमाण आणी फांटा । बाष्कळ आणी करंटा । विवेक सांगे ॥ १५ ॥

हीन देहाचा व अभिमानी, वाह्यात, फाटे फोडणारा, वायफळ बडबड करणारा, दुर्दैवी व लोकांना उपदेश करणारा असतो.

When there is this inferior gross body and mind then, there is arrogance; then the mind has no authority and is a sprout of endless chatter; then that thoughtless understanding is the vivek of a frivolous beggar.

लंडी आणी उन्मत्त । निकामी आणी डुल्लत । भ्याड आणी बोलत । पराक्रमु ॥ १६ ॥

तो भित्रा व उद्धट; बिनकामाचा व पोकळ बडेजाव मिरविणारा, भित्रा व आपल्या पराक्रमाच्या (खोट्या) गोष्टी सांगणारा असतो.

He is a deceitful coward, drunk with arrogance; useless and yet walking with a proud gait; he is fearful and has no courage to stay in this `speech'.

कनिष्ठ आणी गर्विष्ठ । नुपरतें आणी नष्ट । द्वेषी आणी भ्रष्ट । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ १७ ॥

तो कमी योग्यतेचा व गर्विष्ट; व्यसनी व विषयासक्त, लोकांचा द्वेष करणारा व अतिशय भ्रष्ट असतो.

He is inferior and proud; licentious and destructive; he is malicious and bewildered and confused, to the worst degree.

अभिमानी आणी निसंगळ । वोडगस्त आणी खळ । दंभिक आणी अनर्गळ । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ १८ ॥

अभिमानी व योग्य बंधन झुगारणारा, ओढग्रस्त परिस्थितीचा व दुष्ट, ढोंगी व अति उच्छृंखल असतो.

He is full of pride and shameless with it; he is distressed and wicked; a hypocrite and willful to the worst degree.

वोखटें आणी विकारी । खोटें आणी अनोपकारी । अवलक्षण आणी धिःकारी । प्राणीमात्रासी ॥ १९ ॥

वाईट व विकाराधीन, खोटारडा व अनोपकारी, अवलक्षणी व दुसर्‍यांचा तिरस्कार करणारा असतो.

He is vile and full of agitation; full of lies and unhelpful; he has bad habits and is argumentative towards this `all'.

अल्पमती आणी वादक । दीनरुप आणी भेदक । सूक्ष्म आणी त्रासक । कुशब्देंकरुनि ॥ २० ॥

कमी बुद्धीचा असुनही वाद घालणारा, भिकार्‍यासारखा असुनही दुसर्‍या टोचून बोलणारा, बारीकसारीक गोष्टींत दुसर्‍यास वाईट शब्दांनी बोलणारा असतो.

He is feeble in understanding and yet opinionated; he is distressed and creates so many divisions; that brahman and the greatest of suffering are on account of these base words (within the `many' words there is the worst and the best; they damn us to be a body and they save us by right thinking and understanding).

कठिणवचनी कर्कशवचनी । कापट्यवचनी संदेहवचनी । दुःखवचनी तीव्रवचनी । क्रूर निष्ठुर दुरात्मा ॥ २१ ॥

कर्कश्य आवाजांत कठिण शब्दांनी दुसर्‍यास बोलणारा, कपटाने व संशयाने बोलणारा, दुःखदायक व बोचर्‍या शब्दांनी बोलणारा, क्रुर व निष्ठुर असा कुलक्षणी असतो.

Within this `speech' of `I am', there are the harsh and cutting words; within this `speech' there is deceit and body consciousness; within this `speech' there is the sorrow created by stinging, cruel and violent words that are far from the atma.

न्यूनवचनी पैशून्यवचनी । अशुभवचनी आनित्यवचनी । द्वेषवचनी अनृत्यवचनी । बाष्कळवचनी धिःकारु ॥ २२ ॥

कमतरता शोधून त्याबद्दल बोलणारा, (किंवा दुसर्‍याची चूक शोधुन त्यास बोलणारा); घातकाने बोलणारा, अशुभ बोलणारा, वायफळ बोलणारा, द्वेषाने बोलणारा, खोटे बोलणारा, सतत धिःकाराने बोलणारा असा असतो.

Within this `speech' there is the defective and within this `speech' there is the de- structive and spiteful; within this `speech' there is the transitory; within this `speech' there is the anxious and debased and within this `speech' there is the frivolous and harsh.

कपटी कुटिळ गाट्याळ । कुर्टें कुचर नट्याळ । कोपी कुधन टवाळ । आतिशयेंसीं ॥ २३ ॥

तो कपटी, वाईट बुद्धीचा, आतल्या गाठीचा, क्षुद्र बुद्धिचा, कामचुकार, नाठाळ, रागीट, पापी मार्गाने द्रव्य मिळविणारा आणि अतिशय टवाळखोर असतो.

He is deceitful and slanderous and self-willed; morose, dishonest, vengeful and trouble- some; in this hut called the body there is the suspicious and idle, to the worst degree.

तपीळ तामस अविचार । पापी अनर्थी अपस्मार । भूत समंधी संचार । आंगीं वसे ॥ २४ ॥

तो कुलक्षणी तापट, तामसी, अविचारी, पापी, अनर्थ करणारा, अपस्मारी व अंगांत भूत, समंध यांचा संचार असलेला असा असतो.

He is bad tempered and affected by the tamo guna and therefore his thinking is impro- per; he is vicious and a great calamity; he is possessed by the `ghost' of the elements (they create an objective world and this gross body) and yet still, he is moving and dwelling within this `all' body (taking oneself to be a body yet watched over by this ever-present and attentive `all').

आत्महत्यारा स्त्रीहत्यारा । गोहत्यारा ब्रह्महत्यारा । मातृहत्यारा पितृहत्यारा । माहापापी पतित ॥ २५ ॥

तो आत्मघातकी, स्त्रीघातकी, गायीला मारणारा, ब्राह्मणास मारणारा, आई-वडिलांचा घात करणारा, असा महापापी, पतित असतो.

He is a killer of the atma; a killer of the woman (prakruti/creation); he is a killer of the cow/that which gives anything you wish for and a killer of the brahmin (the one who knows brahman); he is a killer of his mother and his father (mula maya or prakriti and her purush); he has tumbled down into this body and become the great sinner.

उणें कुपात्र कुतर्की । मित्रद्रोही विस्वासघातकी । कृतघ्न तल्पकी नारकी । अतित्याई जल्पक ॥ २६ ॥

तो सर्व बाबतींत कनिष्ठ, अयोग्य, वाईट तर्क करणारा, मित्रा द्रोह करणारा, विश्वासघातकी, कोणी केलेले उपकार न जाणणारा, परस्त्रीशी रत होणारा, नरकांत जाण्यास योग्य असलेला, आततयी व बडबड्या असा असतो.

Due to these faults he is an unworthy recipient of knowledge, for he is devoid of any proper logic; he destroys faith and is a traitor to his dearest friend (the atma); he is ungrateful, addicted to the sense objects, lives in hell and still he boasts of these things.

किंत भांडण झगडा कळ्हो । अधर्म अनराहाटी शोक संग्रहो । चाहाड वेसनी विग्रहो । निग्रहकर्ता ॥ २७ ॥

तो संशयी, भांडखोर, झगडा करणारा, कलह घालणारा, अधर्मी, सदोदीत शोक करणारा, राहाटीप्रमाणे न राहणारा, चहाडखोर, व्यसनी, भेदाभेद करणारा व मोठा हट्टी असतो.

His life is rampant with doubts, arguments, tussles, quarrels and disputes; his actions are a-dharma and his behaviour is immoral and the source of great sorrow; he slanders others behind their backs; he is domineering and has so many bad and vicious habits.

द्वाड आपेसी वोंगळ । चाळक चुंबक लच्याळ । स्वार्थी अभिळासी वोडाळ । आद्दत्त झोड आदखणा ॥ २८ ॥

तो खोडकर, अपयशी, घाणेरडा, चाळवणारा, कवडीचुंबक, लोचट, स्वार्थी, हावरा, स्वैर वर्तनी, अपरोपकारी (घट्ट मुठीचा), शिरजोर, दुसर्‍याचे चांगले झालेले बघु न शकणारा असा असतो.

He is wicked and dishonourable; flirtatious and hurtful and a teller of tales ("I am so and so and this is such and such"); he is self-centered with a greedy, rambling mind; he is easily angered and malicious too.

शठ शुंभ कातरु । लंड तर्मुंड सिंतरु । बंड पाषांड तश्करु । अपहारकर्ता ॥ २९ ॥

कुलक्षणी लबाड, मठ्ठ, प्रसंगी काचकुच करणारा, बेपर्वाईने वागणारा, लुडबुड करणारा, लफंगा, उद्धट, गाजावाजा करणारा, चोर व दुसर्‍याच्या वस्तु पळविणारा असतो.

A stupid coward, obstructive, deceitful, disloyal, untrustworthy and sacrilegious; these are his vices. He likes too plunder and destroys.

धीट सैराट मोकाट । चाट चावट वाजट । थोट उद्धट लंपट । बटवाल कुबुद्धी ॥ ३० ॥

तो कुलक्षणी धीट, स्वैराचारी, मोकाट, चटोर, चावट, गाजावाजा करणारा, थोतांड रचणारा, उद्धट, लंपट, भ्रष्ट व वाईट बुद्धीचा असतो.

He is bold and unabashed, stupid and unrestrained in his behaviour; he babbles and cheats and he is an arrogant rogue with devious thinking and infatuated by women.

मारेकरी वरपेकरी । दरवडेकरी खाणोरी । मैंद भोंदु परद्वारी । भुररेकरी चेटकी ॥ ३१ ॥

तो मारेकरी, लुटारु, दरवडेखोर, घरांना खणून धन शोधणारा, भोंदू, परद्वारी वास करणारा, भुल पाडणारा व चेटुक करणारा असतो.

He is a murderer of the atma; he creates the superficial; he is a robber and he has a voracious appetite; he is a killer of the `lost traveller' and an impostor who has taken another woman as his wife; he is a beguiling magician and practitioner of sorcery (ie. due to ignorance you say, this is this and that and so give names and create forms on the nameless and formless).

निशंक निलाजिरा कळभंट । टौणपा लौंद धट उद्धट । ठस ठोंबस खट नट । जगभांड विकारी ॥ ३२ ॥

तो कुलक्षणी निःशंक, निलाजरा, कळलाव्या, निरुद्योगी, पुष्ट, धटिंगण, उद्धट, उर्मट, चिवट, खट्याळ, नाटकी, सर्वांशी भांडणारा व विकाराधिन असतो.

He is powerless but shameless and therefore always quarreling; he is rude, savage and brutal, dirty and stubborn; he is intrepid, stupid and mean; a rogue that quarrels with the whole world.

अधीर आळिका अनाचारी । अंध पंगु खोंकलेकरी । थोंटा बधिर दमेकरी । तर्‍ही ताठा न संडी ॥ ३३ ॥

तो कुलक्षणी उतावळा, कोणावरही उगाच आळ घेणारा, अनाचारी, आंधळा, पांगळा, खोंकणारा, थोटा, बहिरा, दमेकरी, असा असूनही आपला ताठा न सोडणारा असतो.

He is impatient, greedy and full of wrong/impure actions; he is blind (to the formless), helpless and wasting away; he lays false charges, he is deaf (to the `word') and inflicted with breathing ("I am a body"); and he has the pride of all this which he will not leave.

विद्याहीन वैभवहीन । कुळहीन लक्ष्मीहीन । शक्तिहीन सामर्थ्यहीन । अदृष्टहीन भिकारी ॥ ३४ ॥

बळहीन, कळाहीन, मुद्राहीन, दीक्षाहीन, लक्षणहीन, लावण्यहीन, अंगहीन, विद्रुप, युक्तिहीन, बुद्धिहीन, आचारहीन, विचारहीन, क्रियाहीन, सत्वहीन, विवेकहीन, संशयी, भक्तिहीन, भावहीन, ज्ञानहीन, वैराग्यहीन, शांतिहीन, क्षमाहीन, सर्वहीन व क्षुल्लक असतो.

He is deprived of knowledge and deprived of its grandeur and glory; he is deprived of that family of the `all' and he is deprived of the wealth of lakshmi; he is deprived of shakti/power and beingness; he is deprived of that `unseen' and has become a beggar.

बळहीन कळाहीन । मुद्राहीन दीक्षाहीन । लक्षणहीन लावण्यहीन । आंघीन विपारा ॥ ३५ ॥

बळहीन, कळाहीन, मुद्राहीन, दीक्षाहीन, लक्षणहीन, लावण्यहीन, अंगहीन, विद्रुप, युक्तिहीन, बुद्धिहीन, आचारहीन, विचारहीन, क्रियाहीन, सत्वहीन, विवेकहीन, संशयी, भक्तिहीन, भावहीन, ज्ञानहीन, वैराग्यहीन, शांतिहीन, क्षमाहीन, सर्वहीन व क्षुल्लक असतो.

He is deprived of capability and is deprived of the art of knowing; he is deprived of that stamp of authority and has no alertness; he is deprived of this attention and the beauty of that; he is deprived of this `all' body and has become silly because he has no discrimination.

युक्तिहीन बुद्धिहीन । आचारहीन विचारहीन । क्रियाहीन सत्वहीन । विवेकहीन संशई ॥ ३६ ॥

बळहीन, कळाहीन, मुद्राहीन, दीक्षाहीन, लक्षणहीन, लावण्यहीन, अंगहीन, विद्रुप, युक्तिहीन, बुद्धिहीन, आचारहीन, विचारहीन, क्रियाहीन, सत्वहीन, विवेकहीन, संशयी, भक्तिहीन, भावहीन, ज्ञानहीन, वैराग्यहीन, शांतिहीन, क्षमाहीन, सर्वहीन व क्षुल्लक असतो.

He is deprived of this ingenuity and he is deprived of this intellect/buddhi; he is deprived of that pure conduct and pure understanding; he is deprived of this action of the `all' that is the sattwa guna; he is deprived of vivek and is full of doubt only.

भक्तिहीन भावहीन । ज्ञानहीन वैराग्यहीन । शांतिहीन क्ष्माहीन । सर्वहीन क्षुल्लकु ॥ ३७ ॥

बळहीन, कळाहीन, मुद्राहीन, दीक्षाहीन, लक्षणहीन, लावण्यहीन, अंगहीन, विद्रुप, युक्तिहीन, बुद्धिहीन, आचारहीन, विचारहीन, क्रियाहीन, सत्वहीन, विवेकहीन, संशयी, भक्तिहीन, भावहीन, ज्ञानहीन, वैराग्यहीन, शांतिहीन, क्षमाहीन, सर्वहीन व क्षुल्लक असतो.

He is deprived of devotion/bhakti and faith; he is deprived of knowledge and deprived of vairagya/renunciation; he is deprived of peace and forgiveness; he is deprived of this `all' and has become so small.

समयो नेणे प्रसंग नेणे । प्रेत्न नेणे अभ्यास नेणे । आर्जव नेणे मैत्री नेणे । कांहींच नेणे अभागी ॥ ३८ ॥

त्याला काळ, वेळ, प्रसंग कळत नाही. प्रयत्न कळत नाही, अभ्यास कळत नाही, आर्जव कळत नाही, मैत्री कशी टिकवावी कळत नाही. थोडक्यांत त्याला काहींच कळत नाही. असा तो अभागी कुलक्षणी असतो.

He does not know this connection of the `all'; he does not know effort and he does not know how to study/practice; he does not know friendliness and kindness (ie. my neighbour is myself); he does not know himself and is most unfortunate.

असो ऐसे नाना विकार । कुलक्षणाचें कोठार । ऐसा कुविद्येचा नर । श्रोतीं वोळखावा ॥ ३९ ॥

असे अनेक नानाप्रकारचे दोष अंगी असतात, नाना कुलक्षणांचे तो कोठारच असतो. कुविद्येच्या माणसाला अशा प्रकारे लोकांनी ओळखावे.

Like these are the modifications of the `many'. Such a mind is a storehouse of wrong/false attention and such is the false knowledge of mankind and this should be recognized by the good listener.

ऐसीं कुविद्येचीं लक्षणें । ऐकोनि त्यागचि करणें । अभिमानें तर्‍हें भरणें । हें विहित नव्हे ॥ ४० ॥

अशी ही कुविद्येची लक्षणे ऐकून लोकांनी त्यांचा त्याग करावा. अभिमानाने ही लक्षणे न सोडण्याचा हट्ट धरणे योग्य नाही.

Such is the attention that is false. But by `listening' it will be given up. However due to the ego of the body there is an overflowing of these things, and that thoughtless Self can never be established. .
