स्तवननाम — समास 8: सभास्तवन

आतां वंदू सकळ सभा । जये सभेसी मुक्ति सुल्लभा । जेथें स्वयें जगदीश उभा । तिष्टतु भरें ॥ १ ॥

आतां मी सर्व सभांना नमस्कार करतो. जेथे जन्म-मरणापासून मुक्ति सुलभ होते. आणि जेथे स्वतः जगदिश तिष्ठत उभा असतो.

Now I bow to every gathering where liberation itself is easily won, and where the Lord of the World himself stands present in fullness.

श्र्लोक । नाहं वसामि वैकुंठे योगिनां हृदये रवौ । मद्भक्ता यत्र गायन्ति तत्र तिष्ठामि नारद ॥ नाहीं वैकुंठीचा ठाईं । नाहीं योगियांचा हृदईं । माझे भक्त गाती ठांईं ठांईं । तेथें मीं तिष्ठतु नारदा ॥ २ ॥

नारदाला भगवंत सांगतात मी वैकुंठांत नाही, योग्यांच्या हृदयांतही मी नाही, तर मी माझे भक्त जिथे माझे गुणगान गातात त्या ठिकाणी मी असतो.

'I do not dwell in Vaikuntha, nor in the hearts of yogis; wherever my devotees sing, there, O Narada, I stand,' says the Lord.

याकारणें सभा श्रेष्ठ । भक्त गाती तें वैकुंठ । नामघोषें धडधडाट । जयजयकारें गर्जती ॥ ३ ॥

यामुळें सभा श्रेष्ठ आहे जेथे भगवंताचे नामाचे गायन व नामघोषाचा जयजयकार करतात तोच वैकुंठ आहे.

For this reason such an assembly is supreme — wherever devotees sing, that itself is Vaikuntha, and the resounding chant of the divine name roars forth in victory.

प्रेमळ भक्तांचीं गायनें । भगवत्कथा हरिकीर्तनें । वेदव्याख्यान पुराणश्रवणें । जेथें निरंतर ॥ ४ ॥

जेथे प्रेमळ भक्त गायन करतात, भगवंताच्या कथा, किर्तनें चाललेली असतात, वेद-व्याख्यान, पुराणें यांचे श्रवण नेहमी होत असते.

Where loving devotees sing without end, where the stories of God and Hari's kirtan are told, where the Vedas are expounded and the Puranas heard.

परमेश्र्वराचे गुणानुवाद । नाना निरुपणाचे संवाद । अध्यात्मविद्या भेदाभेद । मथन जेंथें ॥ ५ ॥

परमेश्र्वराचे गुणगायन चालू असते, नानाप्रकारची निरुपणें, संवाद, अध्यात्मविद्येचे भेदाभेदांचे मंथन, चर्विचरण चाललेले असते.

Where the virtues of God are sung, where discourses and dialogues abound, and the many distinctions of spiritual knowledge are churned over.

नाना समाधानें तृप्ती । नाना आशंकानिवृत्ती । चित्तीं बैसे ध्यानमूर्ति । वाग्विळासें ॥ ६ ॥

नाना प्रकारच्या शंकाकुशंका यांचे निरसन होते व त्या फिटतात व समाधान होऊन चित्तामध्ये भगवंताची मूर्ति स्थिर होते.

Where every kind of contentment is found and every doubt dispelled, and the mind, through this delight of speech, settles upon the image of meditation.

भक्त प्रेमळ भाविक । सभ्य सखोल सात्विक । रम्य रसाळ गायक । निष्ठावंत ॥ ७ ॥

भक्त, प्रेमळ भाविक जन, सभ्य, ज्ञानाने सखोल, सात्विक, रम्य रसाळ गायक, निष्ठावंत.

Devotees who are loving and faithful, courteous, deeply wise, virtuous, delightful and sweet-voiced singers, utterly steadfast.

कर्मसीळ आचारसीळ । दानसीळ धर्मसीळ । सुचिस्मंत पुण्यसीळ । अंतरशुद्ध कृपाळु ॥ ८ ॥

कर्मनिष्ठ, आचारनिष्ठ, दानशूर, धर्मनिष्ठ, पवित्र, पुण्यवान, शुद्ध अंतःकरणी, कृपाळू.

Devoted to right action and right conduct, given to charity and righteousness, pure-minded and meritorious, of clean heart and full of compassion.

योगी वीतरागी उदास । नेमक निग्रह तापस । विरक्त निस्पृह बहुवस । आरण्यवासी ॥ ९ ॥

योगी, विरक्त, उदास, नेमी, निग्रही, तापसी, विरक्त, निस्पृह, वनांत वास करणारे.

Yogis, the dispassionate and indifferent, the disciplined and self-restrained ascetics, the desireless — many of them dwelling in the forest.

दंडधारी जटाधारी । नाथपंथी मुद्राधारी । येक बाळ ब्रह्मचारी । योगेश्र्वर ॥ १० ॥

दंडधारी, जटाधारी, नाथपंथी, मुद्रा धारण करणारे, बालब्रह्मचारी, मोठे योगी.

Staff-bearers and matted-haired ascetics, followers of the Nath tradition and bearers of yogic seals, celibate youths, and masters of yoga.

पुरश्र्चरणी आणी तपस्वी । तीर्थवासी आणी मनस्वी । महायोगी आणी जनस्वी । जनासारखे ॥ ११ ॥

पुरश्चरण करणारे, तपस्वी, तीर्थावर राहणारे, मन जिंकणारे, महायोगी, लोकांत राहुन अलिप्त असणारे.

Those repeating sacred mantras and performing austerities, dwellers at holy places, masters of their own minds, great yogis living simply among the people.

सिद्ध साधु आणी साधक । मंत्रयंत्रशोधक । येकनिष्ठ उपासक । गुणग्राही ॥ १२ ॥

सिद्ध, साधु, साधक, मंत्रयंत्र देणारे, एकनिष्ठ उपासक, गुणग्राही.

The accomplished, the holy, and the striving seekers, students of mantra and sacred diagrams, single-minded worshippers who recognize true virtue.

संत सज्जन विद्वजन । वेदज्ञ शास्त्रज्ञ माहाजन । प्रबुद्ध सर्वज्ञ समाधान । विमळकर्ते ॥ १३ ॥

संत, सज्जन, विद्वान, वेदज्ञ, शास्त्रज्ञ, महाजन, प्रौढ पंडित, सर्वज्ञानी, समाधान करुन निर्मळ करणारे.

Saints and the virtuous, the learned, those versed in the Vedas and scriptures, great and noble souls, wise and all-knowing, bringing peace and purity to all.

योगी वित्पन्न ऋषेश्र्वर । धूर्त तार्किक कवेश्र्वर । मनोजयाचे मुनेश्र्वर । आणी दिग्वल्की ॥ १४ ॥

योगी, विद्वान, ऋषीश्र्वर, धूर्त, तार्किक, महाकवि, मनावर विजय मिळविलेले मुनि, दिगंबर.

Learned yogis, great sages, the shrewd and logical thinkers, master poets, sages who have conquered the mind, and ascetics who wear the very sky as their garment.

ब्रह्मज्ञानी आत्मज्ञानी ।तत्वज्ञानी पिंडज्ञानी । योगाभ्यासी योगज्ञानी । उदासीन ॥ १५ ॥

ब्रह्मज्ञानी, आत्मज्ञानी, तत्वज्ञानी, पिंडज्ञानी, योगाभ्यासी, योगज्ञानी, उदासीन.

Knowers of Brahman, knowers of the Self, knowers of first principles, knowers of the body, practitioners and knowers of yoga, and the truly detached.

पंडित आणी पुराणिक । विद्वांस आणी वैदिक । भट आणी पाठक । येजुर्वेदी ॥ १६ ॥

पंडित, पुराणीक, विद्वान, वैदिक, भट, यजुर्वेदी पाठक.

Scholars and reciters of the Puranas, the learned and the ritual specialists, Brahmin priests and teachers, followers of the Yajurveda.

माहाभले माहाश्रोत्री । याज्ञिक आणी आग्नहोत्री । वैद्य आणी पंचाक्षरी । परोपकारकर्ते ॥ १७ ॥

मोठे चांगले लोक, मोठे श्रोते, यज्ञ करणारे, अग्नीहोत्र व्रती, वैद्य, पंचाक्षरी, परोपकार करणारे.

The truly noble and the widely learned, performers of sacrifice and keepers of the sacred fire, physicians and healers, all working for the good of others.

भूत भविष्य वर्तमान । जयांस त्रिकाळाचें ज्ञान । बहुश्रुत निराभिमान । निरापेक्षी ॥ १८ ॥

भूत, भविष्य व वर्तमानाचे त्रिकाळ ज्ञानी, बहुश्रुत, निराभिमानी, अपेक्षा रहित.

Those with knowledge of past, present and future, widely read yet free of pride, desiring nothing for themselves.

शांती क्ष्मा दयासीळ । पवित्र आणी सत्वसीळ । अंतरशुद्ध ज्ञानसीळ । ईश्र्वरी पुरुष ॥ १९ ॥

शांत, दयाळू, क्षमाशील, पवित्र, सत्वशील, शुद्ध अंतःकरणाचे ज्ञानी, असे सर्व ते ईश्र्वरासारखे पुरुष.

Peaceful, forgiving and compassionate, pure and virtuous, of clean inner mind and true knowledge — such are these godly persons.

ऐसे जे कां सभानायेक । जेथें नित्यानित्यविवेक । त्यांचा महिमा अलोलिक । काय म्हणोनि वर्णावा ॥ २० ॥

आतां या सभेंत कोणकोण असतात ते स्वामी समर्थ रामदास सांगत आहेत. त्या सभेचे नायकच जेथे नेहमी नित्य कोणते व अनित्य कोणते याचाच विचार चालतो. त्या सभेचा मोठेपणा किती सांगावा.

Such are the leaders of this assembly, where the discernment between the eternal and the transient is ever practiced — how could their wondrous glory ever be fully described?

जेथें श्रवणाचा उपाये । आणी परमार्थसमुदाये । तेथें जनासी तरणोपाये । सहजचि होये ॥ २१ ॥

अशा सभेमध्ये परमार्थी लोकच असल्याने परमार्थ श्रवणाचाच लाभ सामान्य जनांना विनासायास होतो.

Where the means of true listening and the gathered company of ultimate truth exist, there people naturally find their own way to liberation.

उत्तम गुणाची मंडळी । सत्वधीर सत्वागळी । नित्य सुखाची नव्हाळी । जेथें वसे ॥ २२ ॥

अत्यंत सत्वगुणी, धैर्यवान, उत्तम गुणाने युक्त मंडळी तेथे असल्याने तेथे नेहमी नित्य नविन सुखच लाभते.

Where a company of the finest qualities dwells, steadfast and full of goodness, there resides an ever-fresh and constant happiness.

विद्यापात्रें कळापात्रें । विशेष गुणांची सत्पात्रें । भगवंताचीं प्रीतिपात्रें । मिळालीं जेथें ॥ २३ ॥

विद्यावान, कलावंत, विशेषगुणयुक्त, भगवंताची आवडती मंडळी येथे एकत्र येतात.

Where the worthy in learning, the worthy in art, the worthy in special virtue, and those beloved of God himself all come together.

प्रवृत्ती आणी निवृत्ती । प्रपंची आणी परमार्थी । गृहस्ताश्रमी वानप्रहस्ती । संन्यासादिक ॥ २४ ॥

प्रवृत्त आणि निवृत्त, प्रपंची व परमार्थी, गृहस्थाश्रमी व वानप्रस्थाश्रमी, संन्यासी.

The active and the withdrawn, the worldly and the spiritual, householders and forest-dwellers, renunciates and the like.

वृद्ध तरुण आणी बाळ । पुरुष स्त्रियादिक सकळ । अखंड ध्याती तमाळनीळ । अंतर्यामी ॥ २५ ॥

वयस्कर, तरुण आणि बाळ, पुरुष, स्त्रीयां असे सगळे तेथे बसून त्या अंतर्यामी असलेल्या भगवंताचे ध्यान करतात.

The old, the young and the children, men and women alike, all constantly meditate there upon the dark-hued Lord who dwells within.

ऐसे परमेश्र्वराचे जन । त्यांसी माझें अभिवंदन । जयांचेनि समाधान । अकस्मात बाणे ॥ २६ ॥

अशा परमेश्र्वराच्या भक्तांना कीं, ज्यांच्यामुळें तत्काळ समाधान मिळते, त्यांना माझा नमस्कार आहे.

To such devotees of God I offer my salutation, through whose very presence contentment is suddenly and unexpectedly attained.

ऐसिये सभेचा गजर । तेथे माझा नमस्कार । जेथें नित्य निरंतर । कीर्तन भगवंताचें ॥ २७ ॥

अशा त्या सभेमध्ये निरंतर भगवंताचे भजन-किर्तन चालते, त्या सभेला माझा नमस्कार आहे.

To such a resounding assembly I bow, where the eternal, unceasing kirtan of God is forever sung.

जेथें भगवंताच्या मूर्ती । तेथें पाविजे उत्तम गती । ऐसा निश्र्चय बहुतां ग्रंथी । महंत बोलिले ॥ २८ ॥

मोठ्या लोकांनी पुष्कळ ग्रंथामधे असे म्हटले आहे की, जेथे भगवंताचे नामसंकिर्तन चालते तेथे उत्तम गति मिळते.

Where the image of God resides, there the highest state is attained — such certainty has been declared by the great, in many scriptures.

कल्लौ कीर्तन वरिष्ठ । जेथे होय ते सभा श्रेष्ठ । कथाश्रवणें नाना नष्ट । संदेह मावळती ॥ २९ ॥

कलियुगांत कीर्तन हेच वरिष्ठ आहे. त्या सभेंत कथा-संकिर्तन ऐकल्याने सर्व संदेह नष्ट होतात.

In this age of Kali, kirtan is the highest practice; wherever it takes place, that assembly is supreme, and by hearing such stories, every doubt melts away.
